QCA can be employed to test and identify configurations (i.e., a combination of antecedent conditions) that reflect the necessary and sufficient conditions for desired outcomes. QCA entails a reorientation of thinking that differ from more linear approaches. The method is useful to systematically comparing and assessing cases and is becoming increasingly used in quantitative research to study complex relationships.
